Penrith – Review

December 10th, 2011

Our October band week end took place in Penrith in Cumbria. With some of us much longer journeys than others, our rehearsals on the Friday evening went on long into the night although they didn’t start until we’d all enjoyed the delicious lasagne provided by the Church.

Post rehearsals, cornets gave the epilogue about Noah’s ark telling the famous story in the form of interesting postcards between God and Noah with the bankground of “the animals went in two by two” played by Rob. After that we probably should have gone straight to bed considering how long some of our journey’s were but with it being a band weekend this was, of course, out of the question so we stayed up very late and then got up fairly early the following morning for some breakfast followed by more rehearsals.

In the break between rehearsals we celebrated George and Bek’s birthdays with cake, of course, and after that we continued with the rehearsal. After a delicious lunch with Pizza that included a large scramble for the last few pieces, we went off to explore the local area. Many of us visited Keswick and although, in true Lake District fashion, it was raining we all had a lovely time enjoying tea and scones under cover. In the evening, before the concert, we had another lovely meal provided by the church follwed by the cornets’ second epilogue in which we all took a piece of coloured paper and made a rainbow whilst each making our own individual promises which gave us all a chance to reflect and gave a nice contrast to the usual business of a band weekend.

The concert was a great success and we even managed to recruit a new member, James, into the cornet section! After the concert, many of us went and got takeaways and, in true NMYBB fashion, we stayed up extremely late again! The following morning, we had a brief rehearsal before the service began. Taking part in the service is always a particular highlight of a band weekend as it gives us the chance to give something back to the church that has hosted us and this service was no different. Once the service was finished, we packed up, had lunch and then were off (after we’d said goodbye).
